Erik T. Knight

24 - Survivor
Personality:
- Calculating: doesn't act unless he has thought out every angle and potential outcomes. He prefers to make decisions based on fact and logic rather than gut feelings.
- Sarcastic: carries himself with a dry sense of humor finding that it makes doing disturbing or risky things easier on his mentality.
- Stubborn: once his mind is set on anything whether it be a plan of action or opinion of an individual, he sticks to it like a stick in the mud. His mind can be changed, but it's a struggle within itself and he'll pursue a goal with an almost trance-like determination.
- Introverted: tends to keep to himself and isn't open to conversation. In the short time since the outbreak, he has seen a lot of death and it's changed him into a hardened man that doesn't like displaying how he feels openly. This doesn't mean he is unfeeling, though, and when he's alone he allows his emotions to surface.
- Daring: going hand in hand with his stubborn streak, he will take risks when he feels it the best choice if it means seeing his goal through. This can be anything from the smallest of leaps from one building to another to even pushing through a horde in a truck.
- Ruthless: while this doesn't happen often given his logical nature, he can do very bold things in order to ensure his or others' survival having even shot his own best friend after he'd been bitten to ensure he didn't return and walked away from it with nary a blink of an eye to anyone else.
History: before the apocalypse, Erik was nothing special and held a part-time job in a hotel restaurant as a cook while waiting for his probation period to end following a DUI. Born and raised inn Savannah, he felt more at home there than he would have anywhere else. At first, he was quiet, but cared about people and got along with his coworkers while surrounding himself with good people with which he could appreciate life. He'd dropped out of college having focused on partying and girls rather than his studies and was flunking anyway; he was also living at home with his parents not having the funds to move out on his own.
When the dead started walking, he had been at work in the hotel. The evacuation order had been given, and many of his friends were leaving while he returned home to check on his parents only to find his mother dead and his father gone though evidence all over the house that at least one zombie had been inside. Erik left his home after changing clothes and gathering some things in a bag including his dad's 9mm Beretta before linking up with his best friend, Travis at his own home two blocks away. Though they tried, like most of anyone else, to leave the city, he along with others ended up stuck in traffic on the congested highway. Things weren't getting better and Erik knew it.
He, Travis and Travis' fiancee Mia moved off the highway and through the woods before coming to back-roads. They heard explosions and gunfire for days as they traveled before things started to get too quiet. Their life wasn't glamorous as they survived by breaking into homes left behind and barricaded the doors while searching for what food hadn't been taken in initial looting. Things were going well until, while trying to outrun a group of walkers having gotten low on ammunition, Mia got her foot stuck in a railroad cross-tie. Travis went back for her and, despite Erik telling him to hurry and trying to help as well, the dead caught up to them and bit Travis.
Erik pulled his friend away from the horde and out of harm's way being forced to leave Mia behind. The two traveled for a ways before Travis could go no further and, furious at Erik and blaming him for Mia's death, punched his friend in the face. With the former's weakened state, he fell to the dirt in tears while Erik stood his ground and looked down at his friend, seeing his worsening condition. He stayed by Travis for some time before he worked up the nerve to end his life and prevent him from turning, his last words to his childhood friend being "I'm sorry. I love you."
He kept moving and mourned later that night and he continues wandering the Georgia countryside staying where he feels is safe overnight and questioning why he survived when everyone else he cared about was dead or missing.
